一般说来，英美人对于正式的活动都事先发出邀请。但属于日常生活中非正式的社交活动，如节假日或周末聚会、野餐、外出就餐等，邀请者往往通过电话或见面时口头邀请的方式告知客人，邀请者使用的语言也属于非正式语体，表达方式也因人因事而异。

Champagne 香槟酒
早在两千多年前，法国香槟地区就开始种植葡萄和酿制葡萄酒了。那时酿制的葡萄酒很差，它被一位修道士丹佩里农放进了酒窖。第二年春天，当他把那瓶酒取出时，发现瓶内酒色清澈，明亮诱人，一摇“砰”的一声，酒喷出了瓶口，好香啊！大家争着品尝新酒，那真是mellow(香醇可口)。人们奔走相告，并为其取名为“爆塞酒”、“魔鬼酒”。后来，人们用产地的名字把它命名为champagne(香槟酒)。

告别的中西文化
人生聚散交替，见面之后终要分手。在中国文化中，客人要走了，主人总是一再挽留，常常要说“时间还早呢，吃了饭再走吧”等。当客人真的要走了，主人一直送到门外，且目送客人远去，有时甚至送客人到车站，直到客人上车。
而在西方文化中，告别时奉行的是主随客便，强调的是尊重对方。客人要告辞，一般会视实际情况而定，主人不会刻意挽留。互相道声“Goodbye”或“Good night”之后，客人出了门，主人的门便立即关上了。这和我们中国人的习惯是完全不一样的，我们不要误认为主人不热情。
