The public house(pub)as we know it today, is really an invention of the 18th century. Before then, there were alehouses that sold beer brewed on the premises often by women, known as alewives or brewsters.More salubrious were inns, much larger establishments, which might offer food, stabling for horses, and a variety of dining and meeting rooms.
The 18th and 19th centuries saw a massive rebuilding of pubs in reaction to changing tastes, and the opening of new establishments to meet new demand in industrial and suburban areas. Since the Second World War, a further revolution has taken place as pubs have had to compete with an increasing range of leisure pursuits. Many started selling food, while others became theme pubs in the hope of attracting young people.

Linner/Dunch
Linner or dunch refers to a small meal between lunch and dinner in the late afternoon or early evening(about 3-5 p. m.),usually including tea or coffee with cookies, sometimes fruits, a salad or a light sandwich. These two words are both a blend of lunch and dinner, probably in imitation of brunch.
For example:
I forgot to eat lunch, so I had linner.

How to pay your bill at restaurant?
Ask the waiter brings the bill in a black plastic folder. You will want to review it first to make sure you are charged for exactly what you ordered.
If paying by cash, simply leave the cash on the envelope, with some money just slightly sticking out, this will indicate to the waiter that you have paid. If you don't require change simply say“no change please”.If you require only$5,and want to leave the rest as tip, simply say“only$5,back please.”
If paying with credit card, leave the credit card in that black folder they bring with. The credit card just sticks out a little. They will take the black folder along with your credit card, they will run it through the machine, and bring you back a copy to sign.
