第32章 The Road Not Taken

罗伯特·佛罗斯特(Robert Frost,1874—1963年),是美国文坛上最具知名度的田园诗人。他的诗歌自然清新,不追求外在的美,朴实无华,细致含蓄,耐人寻味,具有哲理性,有很强的感染力,拥有很高的艺术价值。

Two roads diverged① in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both.

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth②.

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay.

In leaves no step had trodden③ black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

没有走过的路

金色的树林路分两条,

遗憾不能将两条路同时造访。

孤独的我长久伫立,

极目眺望其中一条,

直到它消失在丛林深处。

但我却选择了另我一条路,

它芳草萋萋,十分幽寂,

显得更诱人、更美丽,

虽然在这两条小路上,

都很少留下旅人的足迹。

虽然那天清晨落叶满地,

两条路都未经脚印污染。

呵,留下一条路等改日再见!

但我知道路径延绵无尽头,

恐怕我难以再回返。

多年以后在某个地方,

我将轻声叹息把往事回顾:

树林里路分两条,而我——

选择了行人较少的那条,

就这样一切便发生了改变。

在生活中需要做出很多的抉择,在抉择面前有时候会令人们感觉到手足无措,这就如同面对分歧的道路,为了选择哪一条路而踌躇不前。在这首诗中,诗人表达了自己的看法,表达了他对人生的哲学:选择较少人走的道路,也许这条道路路途崎岖、前途未知,有着很多的风险,也许会遇到很多的困难,但却是自己坚持要走的路,自己不会觉得后悔。这样就不会在茫茫人海中随波逐流,逐渐迷失自己的方向,这份抉择的勇气与决心令人佩服,只要坚持到底,就会取得成功,实现自己的梦想。
