在美国找工作，工作经验是最重要的。大部分公司，尤其是小公司，不愿意出钱培养刚出校门的人，所以美国大学生不会放弃任何一个增长资历的机会，不会放弃任何一个偏远城市的工作，反而对找工作不怎么挑剔，因为这些即将丰富自己简历的砖瓦，今后有可能是迈入一流跨国公司的敲门砖。
反观国内有的大学毕业生能力并无过人之处，却是非大企业不进，非大城市单位不进，非稳定的“铁饭碗”不要。表现为自我定位不准，很大程度上是定位过高，眼高手低。反映在求职过程中就是不能适时地进行自我调整，重新定位，造成实践的缺乏，沟通能力、表达能力、实际操作能力、观察、分析与解决问题的能力不足。在这方面，美国大学生的做法值得借鉴。
