加州旅馆是比喻是象征,作者把加州比拟为整个美国,描写美国人的心理,反映出美国梦的写实状态。一个在沙漠艰难旅行的人,停下来住进加州旅馆(即美国),前面有(上帝的)钟声在召唤,又有蜡烛引路。“是天堂还是地狱”,是任何一个做美国梦的人常常发出的疑问。
《加州旅馆》是当时把乡村摇滚、民谣音乐珠联璧合的老鹰乐队的代表作品,也是他们艺术生涯中的旷世之作,受到了全球众多歌迷的喜爱,曾获得全美排行榜第一名和1977年美国的格来美大奖。
