Again some time passed， and then the kings youngest son wanted to set off and try his luck， but his father would not allow it. “It is of no use.” said he， he will find the golden bird still less than his brothers， and if a mishapmishap n.灾祸 were to befallbefall v.降临， 遭遇， 加于 him he knows not how to help himself， hes not too bright at the best. But at last， as he had no peace， he let him go. Again the fox was sitting outside the wood， and begged for his life， and offered his good advice. The youth was goodnatured， and said， “Be easy， little fox， I will do you no harm.”“You shall not repentrepent v.后悔， 悔改， 忏悔， 悔悟 it，” answered the fox， “and that you may get on more quickly， get up behind on my tail.”And scarcely had he seated himself when the fox began to run， and away he went over stock and stone till his hair whistled in the wind. When they came to the village the youth got off， he followed the good advice， and without looking round turned into the little inn， where he spent the night quietly. The next morning， as soon as he got into the open country， there sat the fox already， and said， “I will tell you further what you have to do. Go on quite straight， and at last you will come to a castle， in front of which a whole regimentregiment n.团， 大群 of soldiers is lying， but do not trouble yourself about them， for they will all be asleep and snoringsnore v.打鼾， 打着鼾渡过(时间). Go through the midst of them staight into the castle， and go through all the rooms， till at last you will come to a chamber where a golden bird is hanging in a wooden cage. Close by， there stands an empty gold cage for show， but beware ofbeware of 对……小心 taking the bird out of the common cage and putting it into the fine one， or it may go badly with you.”With these words the fox again stretched out his tail， and the kings son seated himself upon it， and away he went over stock and stone till his hair whistled in the wind. When he came to the castle he found everything as the fox had said. The kings son went into the chamber where the golden bird was shut up in a wooden cage， whilst a golden one stood by， and the three golden apples lay about the room. But， thought he， “It would be absurdabsurd adj.荒谬的， 可笑的 if I were to leave the beautiful bird in the common and ugly cage.” So he opened the door， laid hold of it， and put it into the golden cage. But at the same moment the bird utteredutter vt.发出， 做声， 发表， 发射， 流通 a shrillshrill adj.尖声的 cry. The soldiers awoke， rushed in， and took him off to prison. The next morning he was taken before a court of justice， and as he confessedconfess v.承认， 坦白， 忏悔 everything， was sentenced to death. The king， however， said that he would grant him his life on one condition—namely， if he brought him the golden horse which ran faster than the wind， and in that case he should receive， over and above， as a reward， the golden bird.
又过一些时候，最小的王子也想出门去试一试运气，他父亲却不同意。“没有用啊，”国王说，“你的两个哥哥找不回金鸟，你更别想！要是再遇上什么不幸，你才没办法，你兄弟三个数你最幼稚。”可是，小王子一直吵着要去，父亲最后还是同意了。他在森林边上又发现蹲着只狐狸，狐狸求他饶命，给了他同样的忠告。小王子本性敦厚，说：“别怕，小狐狸，我不会伤你一根毫毛。”“这样做你不会后悔的，”狐狸回答，“骑到我尾巴上来吧，这样你走得更快。”小王子刚一骑上，狐狸就飞跑起来，越过了树桩和岩石，毛在风中飕飕飘着。到了那座村子，小王子爬下来，遵照狐狸的忠告，头也不回地进了那家破旧的旅店，在里边静静过了一夜。第二天早上他走进郊外，狐狸已经蹲在那里，对他说：“我愿意再告诉你该怎么做。你要一直往前走，最终会走到一座宫殿前面。在那儿躺着一大群士兵，你可别管他们，他们都会睡着和打鼾的。你要从他们中间穿过，一直走进宫里去，并且穿过所有的厅堂，最后到一个房间，房里挂着的一架木笼子中就关着一只金鸟。在木笼子边上还摆着个当装饰的金鸟笼，空空的，可你得注意：别把金鸟从它待的孬笼子里捉出来，放进这华丽的笼子里去，否则你就糟啦。”狐狸说完又伸长尾巴，小王子一骑上它便飞跑起来，越过树桩跃过岩石，直到他的毛在风中飘得飕飕直响。到了宫殿前，他发现情况完全像狐狸说的。他走进那间把金鸟关在木笼子的房间，旁边果然还有一只金鸟笼。可是三个金苹果却胡乱扔在地上。同时，小王子想：“如果我让美丽的金鸟仍然关在这架又普通又难看的木笼里，就显得太可笑了。”于是他打开木笼门，把小鸟捉出来放进金笼子中。谁知就在这一刹那，那鸟发出一声响彻四野的鸣叫，士兵们醒了，冲进来把他关进了监牢里。第二天早上他被送上法庭，对一切供认不讳，结果判了死刑。不过该国的国王讲，他愿意饶他的命，条件是年轻人得弄匹金马来。这匹金马要跑得比风还快。而且，作为奖赏，国王还答应把金鸟送给他。
The kings son set off， but he sighed and was sorrowful， for how was he to find the golden horse. But all at once he saw his old friend the fox sitting on the road. “Look you，” said the fox， “this has happened because you did not give heed to me. However， be of good courage. I will give you my help， and tell you how to get to the golden horse. You must go straight on， and you will come to a castle， where in the stable stands the horse. The grooms will be lying in front of the stable， but they will be asleep and snoring， and you can quietly lead out the golden horse. But of one thing you must take heed， put on him the common saddlesaddle n.鞍， 鞍状物 of wood and leather， and not the golden one， which hangs close by， else it will go ill with you.” Then the fox stretched out his tail， the kings son seated himself upon it， and away he went over stock and stone until his hair whistled in the wind.
小王子出发了，可一路上唉声叹气，发愁难过；叫他去哪儿弄那匹金马哟？正在这时，他突然看见自己的老朋友狐狸正蹲在路边上。“你瞧，”狐狸说，“这就是不听我劝告的下场！可是别灰心，我愿继续帮助你，告诉你怎样找到那匹金马。你必须一直往前走，走到一座宫殿里，金马就拴在那儿的厩舍中。厩舍前躺着些马夫，可他们都睡着了，并且打着鼾，你可以放心大胆把马牵走。可是有一点得注意：要给它装上用木头和革做的孬鞍子，绝不能装挂在旁边的金鞍，否则你会倒霉的！”狐狸说完伸长尾巴，小王子一骑上它便越过树桩跃过岩石，直到毛在风中飕飕作响。
Everything happened just as the fox had said， the prince came to the stable in which the golden horse was standing， but just as he was going to put the common saddle upon him， he thought， “Such a beautiful beast will be shamed if I do not give him the good saddle which belongs to him by right.” But scarcely had the golden saddle touched the horse than he began to neighneigh vi.马嘶 loudly. The grooms awoke， seizedseize v.抓住， 逮住， 夺取 the youth， and threw him into prison. The next morning he was sentenced by the court to death， but the king promised to grant him his life， and the golden horse as well， if he could bring back the beautiful princess from the golden castle.
情况果然跟狐狸讲的完全一样，王子来到了栓着金马的厩舍。可是，他正要给马装上那木鞍子，心里却嘀咕：“我要不给它装一副能配上它的好鞍，不糟蹋了这匹漂亮牲口吗？”可是那马刚一挨着金鞍子，立刻大声嘶鸣起来，马夫们醒了，抓住年轻人把他投进了监狱。第二天早上他被法庭判了死刑，不过国王答应饶他的命并且送给他金马，只要他能去金宫殿带来那位美丽的公主。
