Margaret： You，ve got to be kidding！ You dragged me all the way out here to watch a war movie？
Steven： What did you think we were going to see？
Margaret： I had my hopes set on seeing “My Mother Cries a River” - it，s a French movie that got wonderful reviews.
Steven： French？ But you know how much of a headache I get reading subtitles. Besides，“My Mother Cries a River”？ It sounds like a real downer.
Margaret： No， no - it，s a powerful and uplifting story...
Steven： So is “Urban Assault”！ It，s about the outnumbered defenders of a city prevailing against terrible odds， and fighting off attacks from an evil army.
Margaret： Well， you already know how it ends， so why bother seeing it？
Steven： For the excitement and the special effects！ The effects are supposed to be out of this world， so you have to see them on the big screen. With romances and dramas， it doesn，t really matter if you see them in the theater or on TV and “My Mother Cries a River” will probably be on cable TV within a few weeks anyway.
Margaret： I tell you what： you go see your war movie， and I，ll go see what I want to see.
Steven： Are you sure about that？
Margaret： Sure， why not？ After all， I，ve heard that “My Mother Cries a River” is very popular with sensitive and romantic men. I might meet one here who，s also handsome and single.
Steven： Umm...you know， this “My Mother Cries a River” might not be that bad after all. I can probably catch “Urban Assault ” on DVD in a few months.

Canine Assisted Reading Program
Principal Watson is showing Ms. Sears， a parent， around an elementary school：
Sears： Thank you very much for the tour. I，m more confident now about enrolling my daughter here.
Watson： You，re more than welcome. We，re especially proud of our innovative canineassisted reading program here in the library.
Sears： Oh my！ Is this a library or a kennel？ What，s with all the dogs？
Watson： This is a pilot reading program. Twice a week handlers bring their dogs here so that students can read to them.
Sears： Are the children able to stay focused or does it become a playtime？
Watson： Our expectations are quite clear and the students have been happy to live up to them. It allows them an opportunity to read to a nonthreatening partner.
Sears： I see. Students can read with more confidence without the scrutiny of a teacher or parent. Has it been successful so far？
Watson： Over the past year， we，ve had students progress up to four grade levels in their reading！
Sears： Wow！ That is a success. I know that I was always scared to death of reading in front of the class.
Watson： Yes， the dogs have been a big hit， but...
Sears： But what？
Watson： But the children are always asking to take the dogs home！
