英文导读

Back to its origin

Rutgers University, New Brunswick (usually referred to as Rutgers University), is the largest institution for higher education in New Jersey. It was originally chartered as Queen"s College in 1766. Rutgers was originally a private university affiliated with the Dutch Reformed Church and admitted only male students, but evolved into and is presently a nonsectarian, coeducational public research university that makes no religious demands of its students. Rutgers is one of only two colonial colleges that later became public universities. (The other is the College of William and Mary). Newark campus was formerly the University of Newark, which merged into the Rutgers system in 1946. Rutgers University has three campuses across the state of New Jersey, with its largest campus located mainly in the City of New Brunswick and Piscataway Township, and two smaller campuses in the cities of Newark and Camden. The Newark and Camden campuses only joined in 1946 and 1950 respectively. Rutgers faculty members include Guggenheim award recipients and Pulitzer Prize winners, and 99 percent of the faculty members have Ph.D degrees.
