第12章 A Doctor for Animals(1)

三个行之有效的阅读技巧

1.瞻前顾后。

对一具体问题不要局限于一词一事,而应从短文整体考虑,从主线向外扩展,打开思路,前后上下对照。这样,可减少“钻牛角尖”和“繁琐分析”。而且,即使是事实和细节题,也是围绕或用以说明主旨和大意的。

2.首尾突破。

大多数短文,尤其是新闻报道或议论文的第一段,或每段的第一句,常包含了全文的主要信息或基本观点;而结尾部分常是结局或结论。寓言或幽默文字的结尾也往往是点睛之笔或值得玩味之处。因此,抓住首尾往往就抓住了主要矛盾。

3.先易后难。

即先做浅层易答之题,再做深层复杂或尚存疑惑之题,各个击破。这样,既可减轻心理压力,而且有了已完成的易题的内容作铺垫,有时还会从中得到意想不到的启示。

阅读理解

Passage 1

A farmer had a cow.He took very good care of this cow and one day when it was ill, he was worried.He telephoned the vet.

“Whats the problem?”the vet asked him when he arrived.

“My cows ill.” the farmer said, “I don't know what's the matter with her.She's lying down and wont stand up.She wont eat, and she's making a strange noise.”①

The vet looked at the cow.“Shes certainly ill,” he said, “and she needs to take some very strong medicine.”② He took a bottle out of his box and put two pills into his hand.

“Give her these,” he said,“The pills should make her better.”

“How should I give them to her?” the farmer asked.

The vet gave him a long tube (管子).“Put this tube in her mouth,” he said, “then put the pills in the tube and blow.That'll make it.” Then the vet went away.

The next day he came to the farm again.The farmer was sitting outside his house and looked more worried.

“How's your cow?” the vet asked.

“No change,” the farmer said, “and I m feeling very strange myself.”

“Oh?” the vet said, “Why?”

“l did what you said.” The farmer answered.“I put the tube in the cow's mouth and then put two pills down it.”

“And?” the vet asked.

“The cow blew first.” the farmer said.

Many people like animals and keep one or more as pets (宠物)—dogs, cats, or some kinds of birds.If you keep a dog or a cat as a pet, you must know how to look after them.

A grown.up (成年的) dog needs two meals a day not more.And it can eat meat, fish, rice and some other things.Dogs like large bones, but don't give them chicken bones.Remember to give them much clean water.
