The Village on the Riverside of River Wei
The Village on the Riverside of River Wei
Wang Wei
On the quiet village shines the setting sun;
To their alleys homebound sheep and cows run.
A country old man at his thatched gate
Stands ’gainst a stick, for the cowboy to wait.
Pheasants cry when wheat seedlings put forth ears;
Silk worms sleep and mulberry leaves are scarce.
Farmers shouldering hoes are seen to come by.
They meet and talk idly, loath to say good-bye.
That’s why in hermit’s life I take delight.
The poem Seclusion sadly I recite.
