To My Friend Councillor Yang from My Study at Gu Kou
Qian Qi
Girdled by gullies and brooks, my thatched cottage lies;
From curtains of climbing figs rosy clouds will rise.
Lovable are the bamboos newly washed by rains;
Charming are the mountains when the setting sun wanes.
Idle herons often roost early for the night
And autumn flowers slow to fall are still a sight.
My boy is busy sweeping the grassy paths here.
As it was agreed, soon may come my old friend dear.
