Replying to Secretary Jia Zhi’s Poem “An Early Levee at Daming Palace”
Replying to Secretary Jia Zhi’s Poem
“An Early Levee at Daming Palace”
Cen Shen
Cocks crow in chilly dawn light o’er the Palace road;
Orioles trill in late spring in the King’s abode.
All doors open at Golden Gate bell’s morning chimes;
On jade stairs the guard of honor greet officials at times.
Flowers meet studded swords when stars fade in the sky;
Flags waver amid willows with dew not yet dry.
The poet at Phoenix Pool alone sings his Sunny Spring,
Surpassing any other song one e’er tries to sing.
