To Master Pei, a Palace Official
To Master Pei, a Palace Official
Qian Qi
In second moon, on Imperial Garden trees orioles alight;
The Royal Palace in the capital is bathed in dawn’s dim light.
Its tolling bells die away after piercing thickets of flowers;
The willows by its pool look greener as o’er them the rain showers.
The sun’s warmth can’t thaw my regret in the whole course of my
poor life;
But to show my e’erlasting loyalty to the crown I do strive.
For ten years I’ve handed in my writings, but in vain they’ve proved
to be;
White-headed now, I really feel much ashamed your gorgeous
dress to see!
