Song of Returning to Deer-Gate Mountain at Night
Song of Returning to Deer-Gate Mountain at Night
Meng Haoran
With the mountain temple’s tolling, darkens the day;
At the Yuliang ferry, noisy men wedge their way.
Along the sands towards riverside villages they turn;
I, too, take a boat and to Deer-Gate Mountain return.
Trees shrouded in mist gleam under the mountain moon;
I have come where Hermit Pang once lived, I find soon.
Long have the rocky gate and piny paths lonely been.
Here I, the retired, can come and go alone unseen.
