男性爱美似乎成了一种趋势，从事美容市场经济研究已十五年的德州大学教授哈默麦许，曾针对美国和加拿大四千人的调查研究发现，拥有美好容颜的人士比起相貌平庸、甚至丑陋的人，成功机率较高，薪资平均也多出百分之十五以上。此外，在医药发达的今日，美国人退休的年龄愈来愈向后推延。据美国劳力市场统计，五十五岁以上的美国人仍在工作的比例，已从一九九三年的百分之三十八，上升到去年的百分之四十五。为了避免在职场显现自己的老态，美国男性整容市场正方兴未艾。另据调查指出，美国三十五岁到五十岁之间的人群，美容整形的比例最高达到百分之四十七。这一类族群从二零零二年到去年整容的人数，达到五百三十万。至于美国男性最常要求美容的手术，多半与年华老去有关。其中，首推抽脂，其次为整鼻、特别是去除法令纹，第三项为割眼袋与拉眼皮，接着为缩乳及拉皮。而在这些手术中，最贵的是拉皮，平均收费六千五百三十二美元。

Rita ： Did you do the full service？
Toni ： No. I only painted and polished my nails. But they told
me the full service would make my nails look a lot prettier
and it was on discount.
Rita ： Then why didn't you listen to them？
Toni ： I think it is too dear. Eighty yuan for once. If I buy their
card for ten times， they will give a 10% discount.
Rita ： I also think it is too expensive. How did they manicure
your nails？
Toni ： First the nail specialist repaired my nails， and then she let
