Gazing at Yueyang at Sunset in the Course form Xiakou to
Parrot Sand Bar — To a Friend
Liu Changqing
It being fine, there’re no waves or mists about the Parrot Sand Bar.
I, a stranger here, think the more of you, my dear friend who’s afar.
In the setting sun over Hankou, birds are seen homewards to fly;
The autumn waters of the Dongting Lake extend far to the sky.
In the cold, from a lonely town by the mountain bugle notes rise;
At night, I moor my boat by the riverside where a watch tower lies.
Concerned o’er the Han state, Jia Yi submitted to the crown a
statement.
Hence his exile to Changsha; and for him people e’er showed
lament.
