World Earth Day is observed on April 22.The globalization is ****** the world smaller and smaller and in face of it，we college students should learn to get an independent mind.
Globalization is ****** the world smaller，faster and richer. Still，9/11 and bird flu remind us that a smaller，faster world is not necessarily a safer world. Our world is bursting with knowledge―but desperately in need of wisdom. Now，when sound bites are getting shorter，when instant messages crowd out essays，and when individual lives grow more frenzied，college graduates capable of deep reflection are what our world needs.

4月22日是世界地球日。全球化使得世界越来越小，面对这种情况大学生要学会独立思考。
全球化正在使地球变得越来越小、越来越快和越来越富有。尽管如此，9/11、禽流感提醒我们，更小更快的世界并非意味着其更安全。我们正处于一个知识爆炸的世界之中，不过，迫切需要智慧。现在，在原声摘要播出变得愈来愈短时，即时信息淘汰了杂记文，个人生活变得如痴如狂之际，这个世界还是需要能够深思的大学生。

1.Globalization指的是一种全球化的“过程”；近些年来，英语中还出现了一个新词globility，它指的是the final state after being globalized（全球境）。
2.sound bites 指插入电视新闻节目当中的一个和选举有关的片段。从前的政治人物往往要能滔滔不绝，说上一两个小时。在今天的环境下，要求也不同了：要会抓紧时间，用短短的几句话发表一个掷地有声的意见，让观众长久记得，这种话就叫sound bite，又叫one-liner。例如布什在强调不增税时的名言是“Read my lips：no new taxes”；里根攻击大政府的名言“The trouble with American government is the government.”等等，都是令人印象深刻的精简文句。
