My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky；
So was it when my life began；
I so is it now I am a man；
So be it when I shall grow old，
Or let me die！
The child is father of the Man；
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

心儿就跳动不止；
小时候我就是这般情形；
成年了依然有此心境；
但愿年老时仍不会改变。

世故抹杀不了我的童真；
惟愿这淳朴的虔诚，
由始至终贯穿今生。
注：这是一首哲理诗，童年看到彩虹一幕让我们应该永远保有童心，保持对大自然的美的赞叹之情。诗中的The child is father of the Man是英语的一句成语，直译出来是“儿童是成人之父”，和汉语的“从小看大，三岁看老”异曲同工，诗人在告诫我们要有童心才能与自然和谐并进。威廉？华兹华斯（1770-1850）英国著名浪漫主义诗人，湖畔派的代表。主要作品有《抒情歌谣集》（与柯勒律治合著）、长诗《序曲》、《远游》等。
