Oh， what a wonderful arguing competition it was！ The scene of the competition is still fresh in my mind.
When I was a college student， I had the honour of seeing a wonderful arguing competition.
The competition was held in the auditorium auditorium n.听众席， 观众席， <美>会堂， 礼堂 of our college on a Saturday evening.

It was entitled “Is the Home for the Aged More Good than Harm， or on the Contrary in Our Country？” The auditorium was full of audience that evening. Most of them were college students. The contestants of both sides were all from senior classes. Each side was composed of three contestants. They sat opposite to each other on the two sides of the platformplatform n.(车站)月台， 讲台， 讲坛. The judges of the competition kept their seats in the front row.
No sooner had the man presiding at the competition pronunced the beginning of the competition than the audience in the auditorum turned to silence.
At first， the No.I contestants of both sides briefly stated the basic arguments argument n.争论， 辩论， 论据， 论点， ～ (for，against)， 意见 of the two sides respectively respectively adv.分别地， 各个地. Then， the competition moved step by step to the stage in the heat of the debate.
辩论赛的题目是“设立养老院是弊还是利？”那天晚上，演讲厅里座无虚席。大多数观众是学生。正反辩方都是高年级学生，每方三位选手。他们坐在演讲台的两边。评委们则坐在前排的位置上。
不一会儿，主持人就宣布辩论赛开始，观众们顿时都安静了下来。
先是由双方一辩分别简单陈词。然后，辩论赛便逐渐发展到激烈的争论阶段。
The basic arguments of the affirmative affirmative adj.肯定的， (对正式辩论中的问题)表示赞成的， (态度， 方法等)积极的， 乐观的， 怀有希望的 side might be briefly summed up as：
A) The home for the aged was the result of social development. Therefore， it was more good than harm；

The contestants on the negative side based their arguments on the following：
正方的基本论点可以简要概括为：
A) 养老院是社会进步的产物，因此，它利大于弊；
B) 养老院有助于将子女们从照顾老年父母的繁重负担中解放出来，使他们能够把更多的精力和时间用于自己的工作。因此，敬老院有助于解放社会劳动力，有助于发展生产力；

反方辩手们则立论如下：
