Nocturnal Reflections in Travels
Nocturnal Reflections in Travels
Du Fu
By the bank where gentle breeze the slender grass sways
My lonely boat with a tall mast overnight stays.
The twinkling stars shine all over the wide-spread plain;
The moonlight surges with the river with might and main.
Does fame come only from one’s literary talent?
I, a weak, old official, should seek retirement!
What am I like, roaming all my life here and there?
Just a seagull that flies between the earth and air!
