Early Autumn
Xu Hun
With the zither’s clear sound the long night overflows;
From among the verdurous vines the west wind blows.
The last few fireflies lie still on the dew jade-white;
Across the Milky Way wild-geese make their early flight.
The dawn coming, still loom thick and dense those tall trees,
In the bright sunshine more distant mountains one sees.
Once on south of the Huai River a leaf falls down,
Naturally in Dongting Lake’s waves autumn has grown.
