To Zhang the Fifth, When Mounting Wan Mountain on an Autumn Day
To Zhang the Fifth, When Mounting Wan Mountain on an Autumn Day
Meng Haoran
In the white clouds over the North Mountain,
I, the hermit, myself will entertain.
Climbing high, I long to see you, my friend dear.
My heart sinks where the wild geese disappear.
With the dusk coming, my anxieties grow.
In the clear autumn, I’m much inspired so.
To rest at the ferry, on sandy ground
Are seen walking those villagers homebound.
As shepherd’s purse, trees ’gainst the skyline stand;
Like the moon, is the islet by the strand.
Why don’t you bring wine here and let’s withal
Be drunk for the Double Ninth Festival?
