To the Court-Affair Administrator Guo
To the Court-Affair Administrator Guo
Wang Wei
Bathed in the setting sunshine are arch-door towers standing high;
Among shady leaves of peach and plum, willow catkins fly.
You work late in the office till evening bells faintly ring,
And as few courtiers still stay in the bureau, birds freely sing.
At dawn, swinging jade pendants, to Royal Hall you go straight;
At dusk, you receive Imperial edicts at palace gate.
I am so old now that I can’t follow you as I will;
Soon I’ll take off my court robe and retire for being ill.
