Last year we met and then parted, all in the fine flower season;
To-day, the flowers are in full blossom again after a year.
In this world of vicissitudes, what will happen one can’t reckon,
Gloomily laden with spring sadness, I alone go to sleep here.
Suffering from frequent illness, how I yearn to retire and go home!
That hungry people flee their native land shames me to get my pay.
E’er since I was informed that to pay me a visit you would come,
From my West Chamber I’ve watched quite a few moons turn
round all the way.
