关山月-The Moon over the Mountain Pass
The Moon over the Mountain Pass
Li Bai
From the Tian Mountain rises the moon bright;
In a vast sea of clouds it shines its light.
Across ten thousands of li far has blown
The wind to sweep the Yumen Pass well-known.
Han’s troops once to Mount Baideng made their way;
Later, the Tartars seized the Qinghai Bay.
None from those battlefields can e’er be found,
Through the ages, to have returned safe and sound.
Giving the borderland a look painful,
Homesick frontier guards their long faces pull.
Their wives in high chambers this very night
Must have heaved endless sighs for their sad plight.
