Two soldiers were in camp。The first one’s name was George，and the second one’s name was Bill。George said，“Have you got a piece of paper and an envelope，Bill？”
Bill said，“Yes，I have”and he gave them to him。
Then George said，“Now I haven’t got a pen。”Bill gave him his，and George wrote his letter。Then he put it in the envelope and said，“Have you got a stamp，Bill？”Bill gave him one。
Then Bill got up and went to the door，so George said to him，“Are you going out？”
Bill said，“Yes，I am”and he opened the door。
George said，“Please put my letter in the box in the office，and……”He stopped。
“What do you want now？”Bill said to him。
George looked at the envelope of his letter and answered，“What’s your girlfriend’s address？”

英文信封（envelope）的书写
与中文信封相反，英文信封上收信人的地址和姓名写在信封的中间，发信人的地址和姓名写在信封的左上角，或信封背面。
英文书信的地址应从小写到大，先写门牌号码，再写街道、城镇、省或州及邮政编码，最后是国家名称。国家名称的每一个字母都要大写。
不想当将军的士兵不是好士兵
“不想当将军的士兵不是好士兵”这是后人给拿破仑原句的意译。拿破仑说的原句是：“Every French soldier carries a marshal’s baton in his knapsack”，直译出来是“每个法国士兵的背包里都装着一只元帅的权杖”。如果把“不想当将军的士兵不是好士兵”译成英文，可以用“He is a bad soldier who does not dream of becoming a general。”或“He who does not want to be a general is not a good soldier。”
