Night Thoughts on Terrace Tower
Night Thoughts on Terrace Tower
Wei Zhuang
Endlessly groans the clear zither all the long night;
Round its strings come songs telling wind’s and rain’s deep plight.
By the lonely lamp-light I hear the bugle-call
And watch the waning moon from the Terrace Tower fall.
Although fast declining has been the fragrant grass
My old friend’s calling on me does not come to pass.
My attempt to send letters home has been in vain,
For autumn wild-geese are bound for the south again.
